I didn't think it possible, but my contempt for our broken two-party system was made even stronger last night.I received a "poll" call, which I usually immediately hang up on, because I think they are a big part of what's wrong with the system. But lately I've been "participating" in these time wasting surveys in an attempt to help the #LetGaryDebate cause. ![]()
Anyways....I got through a good portion of the questions just fineand then this happened:After each statement I was asked if the statement would make me "MORE likely" or "LESS likely" to vote for the candidate.There were about 10 statements re: Frank Guinta (R).Then, there were statements regarding Carol Shea-Porter (D). I didn't make it past the second Carol statement because I saw the direction we were headed. I interrupted and asked "who is sponsoring this poll? It's obviously one sided!"The statements about Frank were very positive. The statements about Carol not so much.Imagine this:"Every morning, after shining his halo, Frank rescues puppies before breakfast.""Would this make you more or less likely to vote for Frank?" compared to "Every morning, after sharpening her pitchfork, Carol kills and eats puppies for breakfast.""Would this make you more or less likely to vote for Carol?" So... those aren't the actual statements, but that's what I heard....that's how blatantly biased this supposed "poll" was.The "interviewer" (as she called herself) said she couldn't answer my questions regarding who was behind this call. I'm pretty sure it's not the Carol Shea-Porter campaign. They are not conducting a poll. They are campaigning for a candidate in a very dishonest way. They are disguising it as a poll...asking all the right questions in the beginning....sounding very official.What they are actually doing is planting seeds....positive seeds for one candidate and negative for the other. Seeds they hope will grow into perceived facts by the time you go to vote.Their ploy won't work on people with a strong party affiliation. You can't sway a strong (R) or (D).It's the rest of us they are after. I was and still am angry.Angry my time was wasted.Angry people are being manipulated like this.Angry these calls are even legal to begin with. ______________________________________________________________________________
