Yesterday, September 21, marks the 78th anniversary of the Great New England Hurricane. It was a Category 3 hurricane when it hit landfall. It was estimated to have killed 682 people and damaged or destroyed over 57,000 homes.It remains the deadliest and most powerful hurricane in recent New England history. According to Wikipedia"Over 35% of New England's total forest area was affected. In all, over 2.7 billion board feet of trees fell because of the storm."
