With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, I thought I would share this simple marketing idea that I've used a few times with great success. The idea originally came from Sheila Kennedy many years ago, when she wrote Everyone Needs Some Luck. I first used Sheila's idea for a networking meeting. I was doing a presentation for BNI and was looking for a way to be remembered in the minds of the other members. I ended my Home Staging presentation with....."In honor of St. Patrick's Day next week, I have a good luck charm for each of you. Inside the envelope is more than just a good luck token, it is a reminder .A reminder to always be LISTENING for the opportunity to help others better UNDERSTAND how CREATIVITY and KNOWLEDGE will help them have better LUCK at selling their house."
I purchased my "lucky" plastic coins at Joanne Fabric. They came 24 to a package. You can currently get a package of 144 coins for $15.99 on Amazon.Sheila used gold coins and I used green coins. Either would be fine. I printed little cards, using Sheila's text and attached the cards to business card size envelopes, which had my contact info stamped on the back. I placed a coin inside each envelope.
Opening the envelope was like opening a gift.I was really surprised at how excited they were to receive their coins. One person said they were going to use the idea as a promotion for her restaurant.Another thought it could make a fun gift for her daughter's classmates. Since then, I've used this idea in gift baskets for real estate offices and at a Board of Realtors meeting I attended. People like gifts, no matter how small. Because it represents "good luck" they keep it.They remember who gave it to them every time they see it. There are so many possibilities on how you could use this. Sheila Kennedy has not been active here in the Rain for many years. She is now a confidence coach and best selling author.
