Strengths and weaknesses
As a professional home stager it's my job to identify strengths and weaknesses in homes about to be listed for sale. I help real estate agents and sellers maximize the positive features and minimize the negative features of a property. My goal with each listing is to make the home both visually and emotionally appealing to potential buyers. Creating the impression of a well maintained and cared for home results in a higher perceived value in the minds of buyers.House hunting can be exhaustive and disappointing. Buyers tour many homes in a day. Often times they see the same negative things from one home to another....crowded closets, cluttered rooms with over sized furniture, a lack of space, dated lighting fixtures, worn flooring, old appliances, ugly wallpaper, pet damage, and heavy dated window treatmentsA home is only worth what a buyer believes it to be worth after judging it's strengths and weaknesses.
Three years ago I went to a Halloween celebration at my grandson's preschool. The movie Frozen was very popular at the time and all the little girls in his class were in blue dresses and blonde wigs. They all wanted to be Princess Elsa.Every girl in the class... except one. One very special little girl was dressed as a rainbow fairy. When asked why she was a rainbow fairy she replied, "I don't want to be just like everyone else." A very important real estate lesson can be learned from this brilliant little 4 year old girl. Do you want your listing to be just like all the others or do you want your listing to stand out and be remembered in the minds of buyers?A very important life lesson can also be learned here.Being brave enough to stand out is a valuable strength. Successful people are not like everyone else! Carol Williams has asked us to reveal our personal strengths and weaknesses.A personal strength of mine is my ability to visualize. I see the potential when others can't and I know how to make homes more attractive. I know how to maximize the positive and minimize the negative. In a sea of blue dresses, I can turn any house into a Rainbow Fairy. My weakness?Fear. I actually fear being a Rainbow Fairy. I have a real hard time being the center of attention, standing out in any way.Since I was a child I've struggled with anxiety and a lack of self confidence. Overcoming my insecurity has not been easy while establishing my business, which requires introducing myself to agents, networking and self promotion. I'm still a work in progess when it comes to putting myself out there. One of the biggest steps I've taken in the last year was joining a local chapter of RESA. (Real Estate Staging Association) and agreeing to be the chapter secretary. It continues to force me out of my comfort zone and hopefully will help me gain the confidence I need to grow my business. You would think that my ability to transform negative to positive would provide the strength I need to overcome my weakness. I hope so. When I grow up I really do want to be a Rainbow Fairy! ______________________________________________________________________________
